The White Lotus Tour of Taormina
Season 2 was shot in and around Taormina in early 2022, and the hotel at the centre of it is a Four Seasons you cannot wander into. What you can do, for about $55, is sail the coast it sits above — Isola Bella, the beach-club headland, the cross-topped rock between the scenes — on the tour 585 people have reviewed. This page says what that boat shows and what it does not.

How a White Lotus Day in Taormina Actually Works
Four steps, one honest correction about the hotel, and the thing every page gets wrong about the beach.
Book the Boat, Not the Hotel
The San Domenico Palace is a Four Seasons and it is not a walk-in. Non-guests get in by booking a table — the cloister bar carries a minimum spend, the Michelin-starred Principe Cerami and the Rosso terrace take reservations — and by nothing else. In season a room is four figures in euros a night. The boat tour is the one thing on this page you can simply book.
Meet at the Port and Find the Green Boat
The operator's instruction is to enter the port and look for a water-green boat carrying the local partner's name; the captain waits there. The port at Giardini Naxos is where the production based Quentin's yacht in the spring of 2022, which is as close to a set as the day gets.
Sail the Coast the Show Was Set On
Up the Bay of Naxos beneath the Taormina cliff, past Capo Taormina — the beach-club headland from episode four and the cross-topped rock the cameras kept returning to — to Isola Bella, which the show used as a backdrop and where the boat stops for a swim. Snacks and drinks are aboard; dolphins are a frequent sighting, not a promise.
Know What It Does Not Show
The caves and swim stops are the coast, not scene locations. Nobody on record has confirmed the hotel is identifiable from the deck — it faces this bay, so it is likely, and we will not claim it until we have photographed it. And the beach from the opening episode is in Cefalù, two hundred kilometres away on the other side of Sicily. No Taormina boat goes there.

The Branded Boat, the Cheaper Listing, and the Land Tour
Three ways to do the White Lotus coast, with what each listing actually includes. The show is in the title of one boat and in the highlights of the other; the cheaper one boards at the branded boat's own meeting point and lists more — so the name is a choice, not a different trip.

The White Lotus in Taormina: What a Tour Actually Gets You
Whether you can get into the hotel, what the boat does and does not show, where the beach really is, and whether any of it still matters two seasons on.
Start with the question most people arrive with, because the honest answer is the whole shape of this page.
You cannot wander into the White Lotus hotel. It is the San Domenico Palace — a former Dominican convent, a hotel since 1896, and since July 2021 a Four Seasons — and it treats the show the way a luxury hotel treats anything that fills rooms: it sells it. Non-guests get in by booking a table. The cloister bar takes reservations with a minimum spend; the Michelin-starred Principe Cerami, the poolside Anciovi and the Rosso terrace with the Etna view all take bookings from outside. Turn up at the gate with a camera and you will be turned round at the gate.
What you can do, for about $55, is sail the stretch of coast the whole season was set on — and that is what this page sells, with its limits stated.
What the boat tour actually shows
Here is the sentence we would want a friend to have before paying:
A White Lotus boat tour leaves from the port the production used as its yacht base, sails the Bay of Naxos beneath the Taormina cliff the hotel stands on, passes Capo Taormina — the beach-club headland and the cross-topped rock the cameras kept returning to — and reaches Isola Bella, which the show used as a backdrop. The caves and swim stops are the coast, not scene locations.
Every clause in that is checkable, and we have checked it. The port at Giardini Naxos is where Quentin’s yacht was based in the spring of 2022 and went out daily with camera boats and a helicopter. Isola Bella is where Daphne and Ethan walk the sandbank in episode four and where the drone kept looking between scenes. The headland is the real “beach club” — the Le Grand Bleu restaurant of the hotel on the point — and the rock with the cross on it is the cutaway shot you half-remember.
Two things we will not claim, because nobody has shown them. Whether the hotel is identifiable from the deck: it faces this bay, so it very probably is, and we would rather photograph it than assert it. And the Grotta Azzurra and Baia delle Sirene, the swim stops the boats love — real places, lovely water, no scene was shot in either.

The beach is not here
The single most common error on every page about this show: the beach from the opening episode — where Daphne finds the body — is in Cefalù, about two hundred kilometres away on Sicily’s north coast, and so are the other beach scenes. Mike White passed on Taormina’s beaches, which are pebble. No Taormina boat goes to Cefalù, and no honest one implies it.
What Taormina has instead is the hotel, the Greek theatre where the Di Grassos and Portia go in episode two, the Corso Umberto street scenes, Isola Bella, and the headland. That is a full day. It is just not a beach day.
Where season 2 was really shot
Season 2 aired from 30 October to 11 December 2022 and was filmed in early 2022 — HBO confirmed shooting at the hotel on 28 February; the boat unit worked out of Giardini Naxos through late April and May. Taormina carries the hotel, the theatre, the old-town streets, Isola Bella and the headland. Castelmola appears above the town, though no source pins a scene to it, and the bar everyone names there was the cast’s off-duty haunt, not a location. The Godfather stop is the Castello degli Schiavi at Fiumefreddo, a private house — godfather-tour-taormina.com covers the trilogy’s Sicilian locations and the one tour that gets inside the castle. Noto, Palermo and Cefalù carry the rest, and the opera the group attends was shot inside Catania’s Teatro Massimo Bellini.
The full list, scene by scene, with what a visitor can actually enter, is in where season 2 was filmed. The hotel — what a night costs, who gets in and how — has its own page, because that is the question the search box asks most.
Which White Lotus tour
Three Taormina products carry the show’s name in the title; two more sell the same water for less and list the show’s filming locations in their highlights — one of them boards at the branded boat’s own meeting point. The honest comparison:
| What it is | For whom | |
|---|---|---|
| The boat, $55 | The branded cruise above: port to Isola Bella, swim and snorkel stops, snacks and drinks aboard, 585 reviews at 4.8 | The default. It is the setting, from the angle the show shot it |
| The land tour from Catania, $81 | A minivan day: Giardini Naxos, Castelmola, then Taormina on your own — the Taormina part is explicitly unguided | You are based in Catania and want the villages without driving |
| The Vespa, $168 | A small-group scooter run through Taormina and Castelmola with photo stops; you need a licence and the operator judges your riding | You want the hill villages and the viewpoints, and can ride |
| The cheaper boats, $39–43 | The same coast and the same Isola Bella swim, the show in the highlights rather than the title; the $43 one boards at the branded boat’s meeting point, adds a guide, prosecco and a snorkel mask, and has nearly twice the reviews | You want the water for the least money — the name was never on the boat anyway |
That last row is the one most pages leave out. The branded boat is a good tour; it is not the only boat on that water.
Does it still matter two seasons on?
Season 3 moved to Thailand. Season 4 is filming in France — Saint-Tropez and Cannes — for a premiere in the first half of 2027, and the show’s partnership with Four Seasons has ended. So the Taormina association is not getting fresher, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
What the record shows is more durable than a news cycle. Sicily’s overnight stays rose 13.9% in 2023, the year after the season aired, on the national statistics office’s count, and the hotel’s manager said the effect on bookings was “noticeable” and that the property was booked through 2023. You will read far bigger numbers — a 424% jump, a 500% increase — and none of them trace to a source we could find. The season’s visitor spike to the theatre and Isola Bella park that gets credited to the show happened in 2022, before it aired; that was the end of the pandemic, not television.
The coast was worth sailing before the show and will be after it. The show is the reason you searched.
The hour before you book
The boat meets at the Giardini Naxos port — the operator’s instruction is to find the water-green boat with the local partner’s name on it — and the ticket cancels free up to 24 hours before. If Taormina is your base, the cable car to Mazzarò is €8 one way and €15 return and runs every fifteen minutes; the Greek theatre is €14. From Catania airport the Interbus coach is €7 single, €14 return. And after the boat, if the hotel is the point: book the bar or a lunch table in advance, dress for it, and go in as a guest of the restaurant rather than a fan of the show. That is the only door that opens.

White Lotus Taormina FAQ
The questions people actually type before booking — answered in the first sentence, sourced in the ones after.
Yes, in season, if you can pay for it — it is the San Domenico Palace, a Four Seasons, and it is a real hotel with 111 rooms and suites. It opens roughly from spring to late autumn each year. On price, be careful with what you read: the hotel itself has not published a tariff we could read, and its own booking engine would not open to our tools. The figures that exist are dated — a hotel spokesperson in May 2023 gave a starting rate of €1,900 to €2,500 a night depending on season and room, the manager has described high-season guests spending €3,000 to €5,000 a night, and a travel magazine in late 2022 found a superior room from €648 in the off-season. So: four figures in euros in season, and check the engine for your own dates rather than any number on any page, including this one. The full answer, including how to get in without staying, is here.
Yes — by booking a table, and by nothing else. The cloister bar, Bar & Chiostro, takes reservations from non-guests subject to a minimum spend, which the hotel does not publish and guests report at around €50 to €55 a head. Principe Cerami, the hotel's restaurant, holds one Michelin star and takes outside bookings for a tasting menu reported at €150 to €250. The poolside Anciovi and the Rosso terrace — the one with the Etna view — are both on the usual reservation platforms. What you cannot do is walk in off the street, use the pool, or wander the cloister as a visitor. Several guides say the bar is closed to the public; that is out of date.
The coast the show was set on, from the water — not the inside of anything. The boat leaves from the port at Giardini Naxos, which the production used as the base for Quentin's yacht in spring 2022, sails up the Bay of Naxos beneath the Taormina cliff the hotel stands on, passes Capo Taormina — the headland whose restaurant was the episode-four beach club, and the cross-topped rock that keeps appearing between scenes — and stops at Isola Bella, which the show used as a backdrop and where Daphne and Ethan walk the sandbank. There is a swim and snorkel stop, snacks and drinks aboard, and dolphins are a frequent sighting rather than a promise. The caves the boats visit, the Grotta Azzurra and Baia delle Sirene, are the coast, not scene locations. We would rather tell you that than let you find out on the deck.
Probably, and we will not say yes until we have photographed it. The hotel sits on a promontory above the Ionian Sea and its terrace and pool face Mount Etna and the Bay of Naxos — which is exactly the water the boat covers — so the geometry says it should be identifiable from the deck. But no source we could find states in words that it is, and the sightline from the Isola Bella side of the headland is unverified. Honest answer: likely, unconfirmed. If that is the thing you most want, the certain view is from the Rosso terrace, booked as a restaurant guest.
No — it is in Cefalù, about two hundred kilometres away on the north coast. The opening-episode beach where Daphne finds the body, the beach conversations and the episode-six old-port scenes are all Cefalù; the show's creator passed on Taormina's pebble beaches. The one beach-adjacent location that is in Taormina is the headland restaurant at Capo Taormina that played the beach club in episode four, which the boat passes. No Taormina boat tour goes to Cefalù, and none should imply it.
Mostly in and around Taormina, with excursions to Noto, Palermo, Cefalù and Catania, in early 2022. HBO confirmed shooting at the San Domenico Palace on 28 February 2022; the boat unit worked out of Giardini Naxos through late April and May. In Taormina: the hotel's exteriors, courtyards, pool and cloister; the Greek theatre in episode two; Corso Umberto, Piazza IX Aprile and Porta Messina for the street scenes; Isola Bella; and the Capo Taormina headland. The Godfather stop in episode three is the Castello degli Schiavi at Fiumefreddo, a private house. Daphne and Harper's villa is Villa Tasca in Palermo, Quentin's is Villa Elena near Noto, and the opera is the interior of Catania's Teatro Massimo Bellini. Scene by scene, with what you can actually enter, here.
No. It was the cast's off-duty bar, which is a different thing. Castelmola, the village on the crag above Taormina, does appear in the season, though no source pins a particular scene to it. The bar everyone names — famous since 1947 for its décor — gets recommended by one of the actors as where the cast went, and that is the whole of its connection. Vespa and minivan tours stop there because it is a good stop, not because a camera did.
They are Teste di Moro — Moor's heads — and the show tells only half the legend. In the version the receptionist gives in episode one, a Moor seduced a local girl, she discovered he had a wife and children at home, and she cut off his head. The traditional Palermo story continues: she planted basil in the head, it thrived on her tears, and the neighbours commissioned copies — which is why they are flowerpots. A second version has the girl's own family behead both lovers and hang the heads as a warning, which is why they are sold in pairs. The show drops the basil, the tears and the pairing, and keeps the revenge. They are made in Caltagirone; in Taormina, Ceramiche Rapisarda on Corso Umberto sells the real thing.
It markets the show openly and sells experiences around it — a tailored filming-locations itinerary and private boat trips from Giardini Naxos — for guests. That is worth knowing because it settles the tone: this is not a hotel distancing itself from the series. What ended is the show's corporate partnership with Four Seasons as a brand; season four is being shot at other hotels in France. The Taormina property still sells the association, and the boat on this page sails the same water as the hotel's own, for a great deal less.
As a tour of this coast, yes; as a pilgrimage, that is for you to decide, and the trend is away from Sicily. Season three was set in Thailand; season four is filming in Saint-Tropez and Cannes for a premiere in the first half of 2027. The Taormina association is three years old and not being refreshed. The honest numbers: Sicily's overnight stays rose 13.9% in 2023, the year after the season aired, and the hotel's manager called the bookings effect noticeable. Ignore the 400% and 500% figures you will see elsewhere — none traces to a source — and ignore the visitor spike at the theatre and Isola Bella that gets credited to the show; it happened in 2022, before the season aired, and was the end of the pandemic. The water was worth it before the show.
From Catania airport, the Interbus coach: €7 single, €14 return, about an hour and a quarter to the Via Pirandello terminal. The regional train to Taormina-Giardini takes 35 to 50 minutes from Catania Centrale but arrives at sea level, with a local bus or the shuttle up to town. Once there, the cable car to Mazzarò and Isola Bella is €8 one way, €15 return or €20 for the day, every fifteen minutes. The Greek theatre is €14, €7 for EU visitors aged 18 to 25, free under 18, open from 9:00 with last entry at 19:00 in season. Parking tariffs at the Lumbi and Porta Catania garages conflict between sources — check the municipal operator before you drive up.
Book a date and time through the platform; the ticket cancels free up to 24 hours before. The operator's instruction for meeting is to enter the port and find the water-green boat with the local partner's name on it, where the captain waits. On weather: boat operators on this coast cancel at their own discretion when the sea is wrong, and a platform booking is refunded or rebooked rather than lost, which is one practical reason to book it there. The tour runs in English, Italian and Russian.
